Arthurian Literature in the Middle Ages: A Collaborative History.

Roger Sherman Loomis, ed.

Oxford University Press (Clarendon Press), 2001 (reprint of 1959 edition).

cloth, dj.

Book Number 23523

Conceived as updating and expanding J.D. Bruce's monumental Evolution of Arthurian Romance from the Beginning down to the Year 1300 (1923), this volume brings together thirty scholars in a collaborative survey that goes beyond the scope of the earlier work, particularly in the detailed elucidation of Welsh texts, the in-depth study of the origins of the Grail legends and much freer expression of controversial issues. Outstanding Arthurian scholar Roger Sherman Loomis provides a Prologue and Epilogue and several of the 41 essays that make up the book. Other contributors include Kenneth Hurlstone Jackson, O.H. Jarman, Jean Frappier, Eugene Vinevar, & Laura Hibbard Loomis.
