Aristotle's Prior and Posterior Analytics.

Aristotle (W. D. Ross, ed. & commentary.)

Oxford University Press (Clarendon Press), 2000 (reprint of 1949 edition).

Book Number 25684

Aristotle's logical treatises could be said to have determined the course of logic and the philosophy of science for over 2,000 years. The Prior Analytics aims to reveal the structure that Aristotle regarded as common to all reasoning--the syllogism--and to show its formal varieties irrespective of the subject matter of argument; while the Posterior Analytics studies how things should be defined--their basic explanatory features--in scientific reasoning. This edition of the Analytics is the work of the foremost 20th century scholar of Aristotle, Sir David Ross, and follows the form of his editions of the Metaphysics and Physics. The text, based on a scrutiny of the five oldest Greek manuscripts, is presented in Greek with a full introduction and commentary in English. Greek and English indexes.
