Powell's Bookstores, Chicago has been recycling ideas in Chicago to the world for the over 40 years. We have two independent retail stores, in Hyde Park and Lakeview, each with well over a quarter million quality used, rare, and discounted books. We primarily specialize in academic and scholarly books, such as ancient and medieval history, philosophy, and theology, but also have extensive general interest sections, including fiction, children’s, poetry, performing arts, art and photography, and cookbooks.
We are buying all the time here, travelling all over the world to bring our customers quality books at great prices. We constantly add to our inventory by purchasing books from our customers in the stores, scouring remainder lists, and acquiring large collections. While we don’t have all of our books catalogued, we have over 100,000 of them on-line, which you can search here.
